Introducing: Box Social Nights!

Come enjoy a Friday night at the Box!  Play board games with friends and enjoy a pizza dinner for one hour, then we’ll move into 90 minutes of a different STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) activity each night.  Includes 2 slices of pizza, fresh veggies, and juice!

Minecraft Adventure: Jumbled Build Challenge.  Everything has gone wrong in Jumbletown!  Only you and your team can make it right by crafting, building, and fending off creepers.

Makey Makey: Video Game Inventors.  Have you seen Makey Makey yet?  It allows you to use everyday objects as buttons for computer commands.  We made a silverware piano and drew our own controllers for Pacman!  Check out the possibilities:


Drawing Animation

Ages 7+

on Square Market
Fridays for 4 weeks beginning January 30th | 5:30 - 7 PM

Experiment with multiple drawing techniques to animate your creations and bring them to life!  Use a webcam combined with iStopMotion  and iMovie software to film your drawings and add sound effects and titles.  Pencils, crayons, dry erase boards, flipbooks, and thaumatropes are all fair game in this class.


Minecraft Adventure Map Club

Ages 10-14

on Square Market
Fridays for 3 weeks beginning March 13th | 5:30 - 7 PM

Chart new territory as you learn to build your own Minecraft adventure maps for others to play. Learn new commands introduced in 1.8 and discuss what makes a good, challenging-yet-fun, map. We’ll play your maps during a Minecraft Night and you can take home a copy of your maps to share with friends.

LEGO Mini

Ages 5-7

Saturdays for 4 weeks beginning January 24th | 9 - 10:15 AM

LEGO lovers unite!  Complete LEGO build challenges, make LEGO animations and LEGO comics, and build yourself into the LEGO world with our green screen magic!  A little of everything with digital arts and LEGO for our younger students.  Great for practising computer skills, fine motor skills, and communication (storytelling) abilities.


LEGO Animation

Ages 7-12

on Square Market
Saturdays for 6 weeks beginning February 21st | 9 - 10:30 AM

Learn stop motion animation with LEGO.  Build your sets and characters and create movies complete with sound effects and titles.
Students can be expected to:

  • Work individually and as part of a team
  • Creatively build with LEGO (not from sets)
  • Understand how animation works
  • Create LEGO movies 20-45 seconds long
  • Gain confidence from sharing their original creations with other students and adults
  • Concepts: stop motion, frames per second (FPS), onion skinning, editing, computer literacy

 


EV3 Robotics Level 1

Ages 10+

on Square Market
Saturdays for 6 weeks beginning January 24th | 10:30 AM - 12 PM

Build and program with LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Robots.  Level 1 gives students an overview of how to program basic motor movements and each of the EV3 sensors: sonar, sound, touch, gyro, and color.  Complete progressive challenges with a partner and master the robot universe!

Students can be expected to:

  • Work with one partner (2 students per robot)
  • Get intensive hands-on experience with both building and programming
  • Follow instructions to build a basic robot; then modify based on varying tasks
  • Understand basic programming concepts including loops, switches, and parallel programming
  • Be challenged with difficult engineering problems in a supportive atmosphere

EV3 Robotics Mission Model: Search and Rescue

Ages 10+

on Square Market
Saturdays for 3 weeks beginning March 7th 10:30 AM - 12 PM

Made for students who have worked with EV3’s before, this class gives a unique challenge that takes three weeks to complete. You will have to design and program a robot capable of finding and saving a LEGO minifig from the clutches of its evil captor: Bad Kitty!

Students can be expected to:

  • Work with one partner (2 students per robot)
    Use the challenge parameters to design a unique robot capable of completing specific tasks
    Implement programming concepts including loops, switches, and parallel programming
    Be challenged with difficult engineering problems in a supportive atmosphere

Minecraft Workshops

$15 per student - See individual sessions for age brackets.

Workshops are limited to 12 students.  Each workshop is repeated multiple times.  Minecraft classes are now broken down by age so we may better match students to the teams and tasks suited to their abilities.

Time to earn your fancy realtor jacket by pleasing five new clients.  It won’t be easy - they each have unique and exacting specifications on the home they want your team to build.  Build the most homes with your team and win some Minecraft honor.
